BOWIE, MD -- Bowie RF Quincy Latimore slammed two home runs, including a two-run walk-off shot off Conor Mullee in the bottom of the ninth, to lead the Bowie Baysox to a 4-2 win over the Thunder on Friday night at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie.
With the defeat, the Thunder are now 0-15 at Bowie since the start of the 2014 campaign and are tied with the Reading Fightin Phils for the wild card spot in the East division; 1.5 games back of first place Binghamton.
Latimore accounted for the only run off Thunder starter Eric Ruth with a solo home run to lead off the second inning. Ruth battled through five innings on Friday night and allowed five hits, two walks and struck out one.
The Thunder trailed 2-0 entering the top of the eighth when Rico Noel was hit by a pitch and Jake Cave reached on a fielder's choice to begin the inning. Ali Castillo then bounced a base hit over the head of 1B Trey Mancini to score Noel and bring the Thunder within a run. With Danny Oh at the plate, Cave scored on a wild pitch thrown by Justin Garcia to tie the game at two.
However, the Thunder offense could muster no more offense in their half of the ninth and Latimore slammed a 1-0 offering off Conor Mullee high over the wall in left field to decide the game.
The offense managed just three hits and three walks on Friday night. Ali Castillo (1-for-3, BB) was the only batter to reach twice in the game. Catcher Juan Graterol was removed from the game in the bottom of the eighth inning after taking a pitch from Cesar Vargas off his mask. He was replaced by Eddy Rodriguez.
Your Thunder will send RHP Kyle Haynes (2-6, 3.20) to the mound on Saturday night at 7:05pm. The Baysox will counter with RHP Elih Villanueva (8-6, 2.65). Listen live to Thunder baseball beginning at 6:50pm on 91.3 WTSR and online at Trentonthunder.com.
