Curve Fall Behind Early, Lose to RubberDucks

CURVE, Pa. - Two big innings lifted the Akron RubberDucks to a 12-2 win over the Altoona Curve on Friday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

The Curve (57-50) allowed 16 hits to the RubberDucks (55-52) and have dropped the first two of the four-game set.

After a three-run top of the second for Akron, an RBI single by Stetson Allie cut the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the inning.

The RubberDucks answered with a five-run fourth inning against Curve starter Matt Benedict (Loss, 4-5), and they added five more runs against him in the fifth.

The Curve grabbed a run in the sixth inning on an RBI double by Sebastian Valle.

Shawn Morimando (Win, 8-10) pitched six innings, allowing two runs on six hits for his second win against the Curve in less than a week.

Erich Weiss had his first Double-A hit in the second inning while Adam Frazier finished the night 2-for-4.

John Kuchno pitched 2.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Clario Perez and Edward Salcedo each tossed a scoreless frame.

Akron's Bryson Myles finished a triple shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and two walks.

The Curve and the RubberDucks continue the four-game set on Saturday night at PNG Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Righty Chad Kuhl (8-4, 2.61) will start the Curve. Right-hander Mike Clevenger (6-6, 3.01) will pitch for the RubberDucks.

The game will be followed by a Fireworks show. It is also Scout Night and kids can run the bases following the game.
