Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the organization has signed forward Kyle Hagel ["HAIG ehl"] to an ECHL contract. In a separate transaction previously completed, the Toronto Maple Leafs assigned goaltender James Reimer from the Toronto Marlies of the AHL to the Royals. In other separate transactions, the Royals also (i) placed forward Kirk MacDonald on the 3-Day Injured Reserve; (ii) moved defenseman Gerard Miller from the 3-Day Injured Reserve to the 7-Day Injured Reserve; and (iii) released forward Phil Gianfrancesco.

In twenty-three games with the Fresno Falcons this season, Hagel (6'0/205) (23), who is in his first year of pro hockey, scored five goals, picked up three assists (eight points) and racked up ninety-seven penalty minutes. Hagel, who currently leads the ECHL with seventeen fighting majors, became a free agent when the Falcons ceased operations earlier this month. Prior to turning pro, Hagel played four seasons at Princeton University, where he scored a total of twelve goals and assisted on twelve others (twenty-four points) in 117 total games. Reimer, who was recalled to the Marlies early last week, played in his first AHL game last Saturday night, making twenty-five saves in sixty-five minutes of hockey and stopping four of five in the shootout, while earning the game's first star, in the Marlies' 3-2 shootout win over the Manitoba Moose.
