Salmon Kings Send Three To All-Star Game

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today forwards Wes Goldie and Dan Gendur along with defenseman Dylan Yeo have been named to the ECHL's National Conference All-Star Team. Goldie and Yeo have also been named starters.

Goldie leads the Salmon Kings in points (27g-10a) and sits fourth in the league in that category. The London, ON native also leads the ECHL in goals (27), first goals (8), is tied for the lead in shorthanded goals (3) and is tied for top spot in game winning goals (5). He is tied for second in the league in power play goals (9) and insurance goals (5).

This marks Goldie's 10th professional season and the first time he has been named a member of an ECHL all-star team as well as a starter.

Yeo is in is second professional season and is a first time ECHL All-Star and starter. The Prince Albert native currently leads the ECHL in defenseman scoring (8g-20a). He also sits in top spot in goals (8) and is tied for top spot in assists (20) among defenseman in the league. The Prince Albert native is sixth in the ECHL in +/- rating with a +15. He sits sixth in the league in power play assists (11) and is 12th in the league in assists (20).

Gendur has played in 26 games with Victoria collecting 24 points (5g-19a) and 42 minutes in penalties during his rookie campaign. He sits tied for 10th spot in rookie scoring with 24 points (5g-19a), is tied for sixth in the ECHL in power play assists (6) and is in 15th spot in assists (19).

The Victoria native is currently on the Manitoba Moose roster after being recalled yesterday. It marks the first time he has been named an ECHL all-star.

The Reading Royals, the City of Reading and the Sovereign Center will host the 17th Annual ECHL All-Star Game on Jan. 21, 2009 and the 12th Annual All-Star Skills Competition on Jan. 20, 2009.

There are 13 rookies on the National Conference and 20 of the 21 players are making their first appearance in an ECHL All-Star Game.

There have been 46 players from the All-Star Game who have gone on to play in the National Hockey League, including 29 since 2002 when the lineups began having players who coaches felt were prospects to move up to a higher level.

The starting lineups are determined in voting by National Conference coaches, team captains, media directors, broadcasters and media members. Coaches also submitted the top prospects from within their conference to determine the final roster with each of the nine teams having a representative.

The Stanley Cup and the Patrick J. Kelly Cup will both be on display throughout the event, marking the ninth time in the last 10 years that the NHL championship trophy and the ECHL championship trophy have been displayed together at the All-Star Game.

The Salmon Kings welcome the Bakersfield Condors to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Friday night for a 7:05 p.m. game. The two teams will meet on Saturday evening (7:05 p.m.) and Sunday afternoon (1:05 p.m.) also. Tickets are still available call 250-220-7777.
