Ryan Huddy to Represent Thunder at All-Star Game

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons, has announced in conjunction with the ECHL that rookie forward Ryan Huddy (HUH-dee) has been named to the National Conference roster for the 2009 ECHL All-Star Game in Reading, PA.

Huddy, 25, has earned his first All-Star appearance as a rookie, leading the Thunder and ranking tied for seventh among ECHL rookies with 27 points (14g-13a) in 28 games. Huddy's 14 goals leads the Thunder and is tied for fourth among the league's first-year players. Huddy has skated in three AHL games for Springfield, led the Thunder for scoring in November with 17 points (8g-9a) in 13 games and finished runner-up for ECHL Rookie of the Month.

The 5-foot-9, 180-pound forward spent time in 2008-09 NHL training camp with the Edmonton Oilers and is signed to an AHL contract with the Springfield Falcons. Huddy spent 2006-08 in the German Oberliga League with Peiting and Hannover, scoring 119 points (52g-67a) in 96 games. Last season, the native of Stony Plain, Alberta ranked third on Hannover with 25 goals and scored 60 points (25g-35a) in 48 games.

The Stony Plain, Alberta native scored 90 points (28g-62a) in 139 career college games with Bemidji State University (NCAA). Ryan's father, Charlie, coached in the ECHL in 1996-97 (Huntington Blizzard), currently serves as an Assistant Coach for the Edmonton Oilers and was a defenseman for 17 years (1981-97) in the NHL which included five Stanley Cup championship teams with the Oilers.

2009 ECHL ALL-STAR GAME

The Reading Royals, the City of Reading and the Sovereign Center will host the 17th Annual ECHL All-Star Game on Jan. 21, 2009 and the 12th Annual All-Star Skills Competition on Jan. 20, 2009. There are 13 rookies on the National Conference and 20 of the 21 players are making their first appearance in an ECHL All-Star Game. There have been 46 players from the All-Star Game who have gone on to play in the National Hockey League, including 29 since 2002 when the lineups began having players who coaches felt were prospects to move up to a higher level.

The Stanley Cup and the Patrick J. Kelly Cup will both be on display throughout the event, marking the ninth time in the last 10 years that the NHL championship trophy and the ECHL championship trophy have been displayed together at the All-Star Game.

The Thunder returns to play for its next game and debuts new Head Coach Matt Thomas behind the bench on Wednesday, Dec. 31 against the Alaska Aces at 8:15 p.m. from Sullivan Arena, starting a five-game road trip.
