Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the Royals have signed goaltender Brad Eidsness ["IDES ness"] as the team's Emergency Back-Up Goaltender. In a separate transaction undertaken today, the Maple Leafs recalled goaltender Mark Owuya from the Royals and assigned him to the Marlies. In separate transactions, (i) the Royals activated forward Tyler Brenner from the 7-Day Injured Reserve; and (ii), the Maple Leafs recalled Brenner and assigned him to the Marlies.

Eidsness (6'0/189) (23), who hails from Chestermere, Alberta, recently completed his senior season at the University of North Dakota, where he went 8-3-1 with a 2.17 goals against average and .920 save percentage in fifteen games for the Fighting Sioux. A fifth round pick of the Buffalo Sabres in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Eidsness was selected as UND's Rookie of the Year for all sports in his freshman season (2008-09), when he compiled a record of 24-12-4 (2.56) (.906) and was selected to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's All-Rookie Team. Eidsness, who played on four NCAA Tournament qualifying teams while at UND, led the nation in minutes played (2387:54) in his sophomore season with Fighting Sioux when he appeared in 41 games for the second consecutive season (24-10-4, 2.11, .914 with 3 shutouts). In 2011, while playing with a UND squad that advanced to the NCAA Frozen Four, Eidness received the NCAA Elite 88 Award, which is bestowed on the student-athlete who has the highest cumulative GPA while participating in one of the NCAA's 88 Championships.

Prior to this most recent recall, Owuya, who hails from Stockholm, Sweden and is playing in his first season of North American pro, played in twenty-five total games with the Royals and compiled a record of 16-5-1-2. His 2.63 goals against average is eleventh best in the ECHL, while is .930 save percentage currently leads the league. Owuya, who started the last thirteen consecutive games for the Royals, won his last four straight, which included a team-record setting fifty-five save shutout last night against the Wheeling Nailers-which was his second shutout for Reading in his last three games. In seventeen games with the Marlies this year, Owuya has compiled a record of 9-5-1 with a 2.07 GAA and .926 save percentage and one shutout. Brenner was assigned to the Royals on January 5 and registered nine points (3g-6a) and eighteen penalty minutes in twenty games with Reading.

The Royals return to action on Friday (March 30, 2012 @ 7:35 pm) when the team travels to First Arena in Elmira, New York, to face the Elmira Jackals in the final road game of the regular season. Friday's game night broadcast will start at 7:05 pm with the Red Robin Gourmet Burger Pre-Game Warm-up Show on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Reading. Streaming audio is available free of charge courtesy of America One through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com.
