North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals, announced today that defenseman Johann Kroll has been named to the All-ECHL Second Team and is the team's recipient of the 2012 Jerry Zucker Community Service Award for outstanding service in the Charleston community.

Kroll, 28, has a career-high 31 points (8g, 23a) in 61 games with the Stingrays this season and ranks third among ECHL defensemen with a plus-minus rating of +19. Since joining the Stingrays as a rookie for the 2008-09 season, the Plymouth, Minnesota, native has 13 goals and 65 assists for 78 points in 159 contests and helped the team capture their ECHL-record third Kelly Cup championship in 2009. Prior to turning pro, Kroll dressed for four seasons at Ohio State University totaling 27 points (5g, 22a) in 153 games and skated with Stingrays Assistant Coach J.B. Bittner.

Kroll joins goaltender Joe Fallon (Las Vegas Wranglers), defenseman Andrew Hotham (Wheeling Nailers) and forwards Justin Bowers (Greenville Road Warriors), Dan Kissel (Alaska Aces), Adam Miller (Las Vegas Wranglers) and coach Jason Christie (Ontario Reign) on the All-ECHL Second Team.

Kroll will be presented with the 2012 Jerry Zucker Community Service Award during Fan Appreciation Night on Saturday, March 31 against the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. He joins former Stingrays player and current head coach Spencer Carbery, forward Matt Scherer, and former Stingray Jordan Pietrus.

"It is a tremendous honor being in a group with Matt and Spencer," said Kroll at Monday Night Hockey, the weekly Stingrays coach's show. "I would like to thank the Zucker family for giving me the opportunity to play in Charleston. With all the time we have being hockey players, it's the least we can do to give back."

"Johann has been an instrumental part of this organization for parts of the last four seasons," said Carbery. "He has provided not only incredible leadership and skill on the ice, but has also been a tremendous contributor to our community representing the Stingrays organization and its core values. His infectious positive attitude and willingness to help others makes him a perfect choice for this award and what it stands for."

The Stingrays wrap up a five-game road trip on Friday, March 30 against the Road Warriors at 7:35 p.m. at the Bi-Lo Center and return to the North Charleston Coliseum for Fan Appreciation Night and The Post and Courier Hall of Fame Night on Saturday, March 31 against the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:05 p.m. The Stingrays are giving away seven game-worn jerseys from the 2010-11 season and there is free parking!
