Schaumburg Boomers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - In the shortest game in Schaumburg Boomers history, starter Cameron Roth needed just two hours exactly to dispatch the Gateway Grizzlies in a 3-1 Boomers victory Wednesday evening. The Boomers go for the series sweep and an 8-1 home record tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at Boomers Stadium in Schaumburg.
Roth was aggressive as usual, pounding the strike zone and pitching to contact en route to his third victory in four starts this season. The Boomers have won all four games Roth has started during their Inaugural Season and the 6'2" southpaw lowered his stellar ERA to 1.57. Roth scattered seven hits, walked three in the ballgame but still got through eight innings in record time with just 102 pitches and one run allowed. RHP Patrick Mincey picked up his second save after striking out two and inducing a soft fly to right for the game's final out.
The Boomers got on the board first with a single tally thanks to a leadoff double by SS Andrew Cohn and perfect offensive execution by the next two Boomers. DH Nick Kuroczko laid down a sacrifice bunt to bump Cohn to third and with the infield back, 3B Frank Pfister put the ball on the ground for an RBI-groundout and a 1-0 Boomers lead.
Much like last night, it did not take long for the Grizzlies to answer with a run of their own scoring on a Richie Jimenez Jr. run-scoring single to tie the game at a run apiece.
The Boomers capped off a night dominated by both team's pitchers with two runs off Gateway starter RHP Tim Brown. Brown falls to 1-2 on the season despite a solid performance, holding Boomers batters to just six hits in eight innings. Schaumburg CF Jereme Milons led off the frame with a double to left and crossed the plate when LF Chad Mozingo singled to right-center on the first next pitch. Mozingo stood at second base after a misplay by Grizzlies CF Antone DeJesus on the single and moved to third on the fly out to center by recently acquired INF Karexon Sanchez.
