Grizzlies Drop Close Game to Boomers in Schaumburg

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The Schaumburg Boomers edged the Gateway 3-1 Wednesday night in a quick two hour game at Boomers Stadium. The loss was the fourth in a row for Gateway.

Schaumburg jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Frank Fister RBI groundout.

Gateway (7-10) responded in the second inning with a run of their own on two hits. After a walk to Case Rigby and a single by Justin Dunning, Richie Jimenez Jr. picked up an RBI single to tie the game at one.

Schaumburg (10-7) scored the game's final two runs in the fourth inning with the help of a Grizzlies error. Chad Mozingo collected an RBI single while Sean Mahley drove in a run on a groundout.

Grizzlies starter Tim Brown (1-2) and Schaumburg starter Cameron Roth (3-0) dueled throughout the entire game. Brown took the loss despite going the distance and surrendering only two earned runs on six hits. Meanwhile, Roth scattered seven hits and gave up only one run in eight innings to get the win.

Jon Myers and Dunning paced the Grizzlies offense with two hits apiece.

The Grizzlies and Boomers play game three of the series on Thursday evening at Boomers Stadium. Jonathan Gonzalez (1-1) makes the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 6:30 CT.
