River City Rascals News Release

Florence, Ky. - River City spoiled another great pitching performance, this time from Preston Vancil against his old team, but two defensive misplays cost the Rascals two runs en-route to a 2-1 deficit.

The first three Florence hitters of the game reached, the third on a soft line drive that appeared would be caught at second base, but got over the head of Kyle Jones to plate the first run.

River City (12-5) tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth with consecutive hits, including an RBI double from Josh Workman as Vancil continued to pitch well, lasting seven innings while allowing just one run on five hits with four strikeouts.

Nick Kennedy took over for the Rascals and allowed a one-out walk. A stolen base and fielder's choice later, Eddie Rodriguez popped up what should have been the final out of the eighth, but nobody took charge and the batted ball fell near the mound to give the Freedom a 2-1 lead.

The Rascals got a gift in the ninth as Chris Andreas made it to third on a dropped fly to right-center with one out, but a strikeout and pop-up ended the threat, sending River City to their first series loss.

NOTES:

-Eric Williams extended his on-base streak to 17 games with a fifth-inning walk
