Tacoma Rainiers News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Luis Rodriguez drove in a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning to lead the Tacoma Rainiers to a 6-4 win over the Sacramento River Cats at Raley Field on Thursday.
With the score tied at 4-4, the infielder Rodriguez lined a single to right field with two outs, scoring Trayvon Robinson and Carlos Triunfel and giving Tacoma a third consecutive win. Rodriguez has now produced 10 RBI over his last five games.
Tacoma originally held a 3-0 lead over the River Cats through the game's first two innings. Outfielder Mike Wilson hit a three-run home run to left field in the top of the second inning that gave the Rainiers a quick advantage. Wilson has now homered three times over his last two games and has four overall this season.
Sacramento eventually shrunk Tacoma's lead down to 4-3 in the sixth, and then tied the game with Grant Green's RBI single off right-hander Josh Kinney with two outs in the eighth to set the scene for Rodriguez's late-inning heroics in the next frame.
The Rainiers combined to collect eight hits against the River Cats, with outfielder Trayvon Robinson leading the lineup with three hits including a pair of doubles.
Kinney (1-0) picked up his first win of the season despite giving up the game-tying run - unearned - in the eighth. The right-hander allowed three hits and struck out two over 1.1 innings of work.
Starter Andrew Carraway held the River Cats to three runs on six hits, walked four and struck out three over 5.2 innings and did not garner a decision.
The Rainiers (27-40) look to stretch their winning streak four games in the second leg of their four-game series at Sacramento (42-26) tomorrow, June 15. Right-hander Jeff Marquez (4-7, 6.75) is scheduled to start for Tacoma in the contest against River Cats right-hander Graham Godfrey (5-0, 1.05). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
