Aces Open Series with 4-1 Victory over Tucson

RENO, Nev.-Joe Martinez dealt seven shutout innings, winning his sixth-consecutive start and leading the Reno Aces to a 4-1 victory over the Tucson Padres in the series opener Thursday night at Aces Ballpark.

The first-place Aces now have won 10 of their last 11 games and six-straight at home.

Martinez (6-3) scattered four hits with four strikeouts over seven shutout frames, matching a club record with his sixth-straight winning start. After his exit, Takashi Saito allowed a run in one-third of an inning, Jensen Lewis recorded the final two outs of the eighth, and Jonathan Albaladejo slammed the door in the ninth for his 12th save.

Tucson starter Anthony Reyes (0-4) took the loss, allowing two runs on seven hits over 3.2 innings of work.

At the plate for Reno, Jake Elmore completed a 4-for-4 night, pushing his hitting streak to a career-best 23 games. A.J. Pollock hit his first Triple-A homer of the season in the fifth, and Ryan Budde added a three-hit effort.

The series continues Friday night at Aces Ballpark with LHP Zach Kroenke (4-1, 4.75 ERA) getting the nod for Reno against Tucson's RHP Jorge Reyes (4-6, 4.42 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and it'll be another Saint Mary's Fireworks Friday presented by KRNV News 4.
