Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Albuquerque Isotopes' beloved mascot Orbit has reached the finals of Minor League Baseball's Mascot Mania contest which determines, by vote of fans, who the best mascot is in Minor League Baseball in a tournament-style format.

In the final match-up Orbit, who has already vanquished five other mascots, will now face "Ike the Spike" of the State College Spikes, a short-season affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates located in State College, PA.

Final round voting begins today and will continue until Monday, June 18 at 10:00 PM MT. A winner will be announced on Tuesday, June 19. Fans can vote at www.abqisotopes.com and at www.milb.com.

If he triumphs over Ike the Spike, Orbit will receive a trophy and recognition throughout baseball along with the bragging rights of being the "people's choice" for best mascot in the game, something Isotopes fans have known since 2003.

"I'm obviously thrilled to have made it to the championship round," said Orbit in a prepared statement at Isotopes Park. "I also feel incredibly honored to have such amazing fans in my corner. It's been a long road, but I know with the support of Isotopes fans, we can see this thing through!"

After a quick trip to Des Moines, the Isotopes are back home this Tuesday, June 19 for an action-packed eight-game homestand that includes fireworks, a camo hat giveaway courtesy of Miller Lite, and a live performance by Rally. Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
