Tonight's Game-- Brian Bass makes his first road start as the RedHawks continue their series in Round Rock when they face the Express at 7:05 p.m.
Yesterday-- Brandon Barnes drove in four runs and Scott Moore went 4-for-4 with two RBIs as the RedHawks won their series opener 10-6 over the Express. Moore knocked an RBI single in the first to give the RedHawks the early lead. Barnes followed with a three-run homer-his first since joining the RedHawks-the next inning to make it 4-0. Leading 4-1 in the fifth, Moore collected his second RBI single to extend the lead back to four. The RedHawks then piled on three runs in the sixth, all with two out. Barnes singled home a run, and Mike Hessman knocked a two-run single later in the inning. Leonys Martin hit a two-run homer in the seventh for Round Rock to make it 8-3. The Express scored three more times in the eighth and even had the tying runners on with two outs, but Enerio Del Rosario got Matt Kata to ground out to end the rally. After the RedHawks plated two in the ninth, Del Rosario ensured there would be no rally and finished the game for his first save of the year. Adalberto Flores (4-0) earned the win after 2.1 innings of hitless relief.
Today's Probable Pitchers-- Brian Bass makes his first road start since joining the RedHawks...Sunday against New Orleans, Bass exited in the fifth after allowing five runs and nine hits over 4.1 innings...He threw just 20 pitches over his first two innings, but then tossed 72 the rest of the way...Since throwing six scoreless innings in his team debut, Bass has allowed 10 runs and 18 hits over his last two starts (9.2 IP)...Last season with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, Bass went 3-6 with a 5.52 ERA over 14 road starts...He began this season playing for the Hanwha Eagles of the Korean Baseball Organization...After returning to the U.S., Bass signed with the Astros on May 27 and was assigned to the RedHawks...Round Rock pitcher Martin Perez will seek his first win in seven starts when he pitches tonight...In his last start Sunday at Omaha, Perez tied a season high with seven innings on just 79 pitches, but he also gave up 11 hits...During his current winless drought, Perez is 0-3 with a 7.48 ERA...The lefty earned the victory in the Express' lone win over the RedHawks this season...On April 27 in OKC, Perez allowed three runs and four hits over six innings...After giving up two quick runs in the first, Perez retired the next 13 straight and 16 of the last 17 hitters he faced.
Raise Your Forty-- The RedHawks won their 40th game of the season yesterday. Last season, they did not win their 40th game until July 14 (40-52).
Scotty Knows-- With his 4-for-4 day, Scott Moore is now 11-for-20 with 10 RBIs in five games against Round Rock this season. He also became the fifth player in the PCL with 50 RBIs and ranks second in the league with 23 doubles. Last season with Iowa, Moore collected 53 RBIs and had 19 doubles over 123 games.
Super Snyder-- Brad Snyder is currently on a season-best 12-game hitting streak, hitting .419 (18x43) with one home run and nine RBIs. He is also tied with Brandon Barnes for the longest hitting streak by a RedHawk this season and is the only player in the PCL with double-digit stolen bases (10) to have hit as many as nine home runs.
Friendly Family Feud-- Brad Snyder's younger brother, Ben, is a pitcher for the Express. After flying out last night, Brad is 1-for-3 against Ben this season. The brothers from Bellevue, Ohio had never faced each other in an official game until April 26.
Streaky Jimmy-- Jimmy Paredes has 15 hits over his last six games, but he's done it in unusual fashion. He had back-to-back four-hit games on Saturday and Sunday. He then went hitless on Monday, 4-for-5 Tuesday, hitless on Wednesday, and 3-for-5 yesterday.
Barnes' Big Bat-- Since joining the RedHawks on May 27, Brandon Barnes has hit safely in 15 of 17 games to the tune of a .371 average. He tied a season high with four RBIs yesterday. (April 23 vs. Midland)
Leaving The Park-- The RedHawks are tied with Sacramento for the lead league with 78 home runs this season. Last year the team finished dead last with just 88 homers.
Walking Toward Danger?-- The RedHawks pitching staff has been one of the best in the league throughout the entire season at preventing walks until recently. Last night they set a new season high with nine free passes. Over the last eight games, the RedHawks have racked up 45 walks, with at least five in a game six times.
So The Pitcher Doesn't Bat?-- The RedHawks are playing a series against an American League affiliate for the first time in over a month. They are 5-7 in games with a DH, and the DH's are hitting a combined .239 but have driven in 13 runs in 12 games.
Against the Express-- The RedHawks have won four of five so far against the Express...The RedHawks have scored 44 runs and hit .365...Scott Moore is currently 11-for-20 with six doubles and 10 RBIs...J.B. Shuck went went 5-for-5 in OKC back on April 28...Last season the Express won 10 of 16, but the RedHawks went 5-3 at The Dell Diamond... From 1983-2010, the Oklahoma City franchise was affiliated with the Texas Rangers, and from 2000-2010, Round Rock served as an Astros' affiliate first for Double-A, then Triple-A beginning in 2005.
