Rockford increases overall attendance for third straight season

Rockford, Ill.- A sell-out crowd of 5,951 capped a record setting season at the gate for the Rockford IceHogs on Saturday night. The American Hockey League club set a single season franchise record as 159,132 fans passed through the turnstiles at the Rockford MetroCentre to watch the IceHogs and the AHL.
The IceHogs averaged 3,978 fans with their 40 home dates in 2009-10, marking the highest per game average in the team's 11-year history. The team drew 3,973 during the 2005-06 campaign when the arena's capacity was larger by about 1,200.
Since Jan. 2, Rockford has averaged 4,524 fans in 21 games. In those 13 weeks, the IceHogs recorded six sellouts at the MetroCentre, the capacity of which is 5,767 for hockey.
In the three seasons since joining the AHL, the Rockford faithful have set a single season attendance record each year. Overall, the IceHogs have packed 468,540 fans into the MetroCentre in their AHL era. In 11 seasons of professional hockey in the Rock River Valley, the IceHogs have entertained 1,585,840 fans.
