Albany Devils News Release

LOWELL, Mass. - Cory Murphy's power play goal with 1:12 left in overtime gave the Lowell Devils a 3-2 triumph over the Worcester Sharks on Saturday at the Tsongas Center. The Devils' win coupled with a loss by the Norfolk Admirals shrunk Lowell's magic number down to five.

Murphy and David McIntyre led Lowell's offense with a goal and assist each. Mike McKenna stopped 40 of 42 shots through overtime to gather his 23rd win of the season.

After the Sharks rallied from two goals down to force overtime, it was McIntyre drawing a penalty on a breakaway attempt to put the Devils on the man-advantage. Murphy needed only 18 seconds to knuckle a Ben Walter feed over the glove of Alex Stalock.

McIntyre put the Devils up 2-0 at 10:15 of the middle period with his second goal in as many games. Murphy picked off a pass at the Worcester blueline and sent a shot toward the net that McIntyre was eventually whacked past Stalock for his third marker of the season.

It was with 2:10 left in the second period that Worcester finally solved McKenna as Dennis McCauley broke down the left wing and roofed a wrist shot to the left corner.

Worcester was able to even the score, 2-2, with 4:15 remaining in the third with their fifth power play of the game. Derek Joslin's point shot found its way through a screen under the pad of the Devils netminder.

The Devils broke a 0-0 tie at 9:29 of the first as two passes off the board sprung Brad Mills across the blueline for a shot from the near circle that found space inside the far post.

The Lowell Devils start the final weekend of the regular season with a match-up against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Friday, Apr. 9 at 7:00PM. Go online to AHLlive.com to catch all of the live Devils action. For more information, call (978) 458-PUCK or go to www.lowelldevilshockey.com.
