Peoria Rivermen News Release

PEORIA, Ill. - The Peoria Rivermen rattled off three unanswered goals to negate an early deficit on their way to a 4-2 win over the Lake Erie Monsters. The win officially eliminated the Monsters from postseason contention while it kept the Rivermen three points back of Milwaukee for the fourth and final playoff spot in the West Division.

Peoria finished their home schedule with a record of 22-15-1-2 after they improved to 6-1-0 all-time against the Monsters at Carver Arena.

The Monsters controlled play in the first, collected a 7-3 edge in shots and a 1-0 lead. Brian Willsie finished off a give-and-go with T.J. Hensick at 12:58. His 26th goal of the season gave the Monsters their only lead of the night.

Lake Erie's lead stood until the final 5 minutes of the second period when Chris Porter broke through with his second shorthanded goal of the season. Following a clear by Tyson Strachan, a two-on-one developed with Porter and Cam Paddock. Porter looked off a pass and fired a slapshot under the pads of John Grahame to tie the score at 15:34.

Nate Guenin broke the 1-1 tie at 2:23 of the third period with a wrist shot from the blue line that snuck past John Grahame and into the top corner of the net. Enforcer Mitch Love, who fought Patrick Bordeleau in the second period, and Pascal Rheaume in his Rivermen debut earned assists on the play. It was Guenin's second goal since joining the Rivermen in February and fifth overall on the year.

The Rivermen power-play finally broke through, after three unsuccessful tries in the first two periods, at 15:27. Derek Armstrong found a Jonas Junland blocked shot in the slot and chopped it in for his 17th of the year. Peoria finished 1-for-4 on the power play and held the Monsters scoreless in their three chances.

Lake Erie crept back into the game with 3:01 remaining on a slapshot from Travis Gawryletz that sailed into the top left corner of the net for his second of the season.

With the net empty, Paddock dashed the Monsters chances with a tap-in at 19:10. Guenin lofted a pass behind the pulled-in Monsters' defense and Paddock tracked it down for his 15th goal of the season. It was the sixth straight game in which Paddock has scored which matches the longest streak in the American Hockey League this season.

Peoria will play their remaining three games on the road next week in an effort to push past Milwaukee in the standings. They will take on the Admirals in their next game on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Bradley Center. Their final two games will be in Manitoba on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
