Green Bay Rockers News Release
Wausau, Wis.-The Green Bay Rockers fell to the Wausau Woodchucks 2-1 Tuesday night at Athletic Park in the first of back-to-back meetings between the two teams.
The Rockers dropped to 4-11 while the Woodchucks improved to 7-8 through the first 15 games on the season as Green Bay will look to split the series against Wausau Wednesday on the road.
The first two innings featured a scoreless affair on both sides as Logan Berrier retired the first six batters he faced in the first two innings including striking out the side in the top of the first.
Despite Wausau getting a runner to third in the bottom of the third inning, the game remained scoreless after Berrier retired the side with a groundout, keeping the Woodchucks off the board through three innings.
The Rockers struck first off the bat of Griffin Stevens, sending one out off a solo home run over the right field wall, giving the Rockers a 1-0 lead through four innings of play after Berrier retired the Woodchucks in order in the bottom of the fourth.
Logan Berrier struck out the side in the bottom of the fifth, getting his third strikeout of the game as the Rockers still led 1-0 through five innings of play.
Berrier cruised along in the sixth, pitching his sixth scoreless inning and keeping his team out in front 1-0 heading into the seventh.
The Woodchucks would get their first run of the game off an RBI groundout in the bottom of the seventh and then took the lead off an error by the Rockers defense, leading 2-1 going into the eighth inning, as Green Bay looked to strike back and take the lead once again.
After a scoreless eighth inning on both sides, the Rockers started off the ninth off strong, but the Woodchucks retired the last three batters to get the victory at home winning 2-1.
The Rockers will square off against the Woodchucks for the second straight day on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. from Athletic Park in Wausau.
