COMSTOCK PARK - With three runs in the first inning, the Whitecaps jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 6-1 victory over Wisconsin. West Michigan has won three of its last four games.

Mauricio Robles pitched six shutout innings to become the first Whitecaps starter other than Jon Kibler and Alfredo Figaro to earn a victory since June 8. Robles won at Great Lakes on June 8. The last Whitecaps starter other than that trio to earn a win was Paul Nardozzi on May 20 at South Bend.

On Wednesday, Robles allowed two hits and two walks for the victory. His effort was followed by scoreless innings by Brett Jacobson and Manny Miguelez. The only Wisconsin run of the game scored on a single by Joe Dunigan with two out in the top of the ninth. Cory Middleton put the Whitecaps on the board in the second inning with an RBI double down the left field line.

Kyle Peter then added an RBI sac fly and Justin Henry had an RBI single to give West Michigan a 3-0 advantage. Peter, Henry and Brandon Douglas combined for consecutive singles to open the fifth inning. Douglas picked up his seventh RBI in six games with the Whitecaps to make the lead 4-0. In the sixth, West Michigan added another pair of run to round out its scoring. The first run came home on a wild pitch and was the second of the game by Ronnie Bourquin. Kody Kaiser scored his second run of the night on a single by Peter. Three wild pitches in the inning, including two by reliever Natividad Dilone contributed to the Whitecaps rally. Wisconsin starter Keith Renaud was charged with all six runs and took the loss.
