Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, Ohio-Angel Cabrera lined a home run into the left field seats leading off the bottom of the ninth inning to break a 3-3 tie and lift the Dayton Dragons to a 4-3 victory over the Peoria Chiefs on Wednesday night. The Dragons battled back from a 3-0 deficit for their fifth "walk-off" win of the second half and seventh of the season.

The Dragons are 12-2 over their last 14 games. They are 19-13 in the second half. The Chiefs lost for just the sixth time in their last 27 games. They are 21-11 in the second half.

The Dragons have won their last eight games at Fifth Third Field.

For Cabrera, it was his second game-ending home run in the last three Dragons home games. He belted a "walk-off" homer against Beloit on July 13th.

Peoria took the lead in the second inning. Rebel Ridling reached on an error by third baseman Brandon Waring, went to second on a ground out, and scored on a two-out single by Brandon Guyer to make it 1-0.

The Chiefs jumped ahead 3-0 in the fourth on a two-run homer by Ridling off Dragons starting pitcher Luis Montano.

Dayton started back in the sixth when Waring belted a home run to left with two outs and the bases empty. It was Waring's team-leading 16th homer of the year.

The Dragons tied the game in the eighth. Justin Reed reached on an error to start the inning and went to second on Zack Cozart's single. The next two batters were retired, but Denis Phipps followed with a single to center to drive in Reed to make it 3-2, and Devin Mesoraco singled to right to bring in Cozart and tie the game.

Cabrera led off the bottom of the ninth with a line drive to left off an 0-2 pitch that carried over the fence to end the game. It was Cabrera's third homer of the year.

Dragons reliever Aguido (OGG-ee-doe) Gonzalez pitched a perfect top of the ninth for his first win with the club in only his second game.

Peoria collected just four hits against the Dragons trio of pitchers, Montano, Curtis Partch, and Gonzalez.

The Dragons host the Chiefs again on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. Kyle Lotzkar (2-3, 4.66) will start for Dayton.

Notes: The Dragons have hit eight home runs in their last three games and lead the league with 93 homers on the year.
