Chiefs Reliever Jordan Latham Promoted to Daytona

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have announced that RH pitcher Jordan Latham has been promoted to High-A Daytona in the Florida State League. Latham becomes the 10th Chiefs player to earn a promotion this season. The Cubs have yet to announce a replacement for Latham on the Chiefs roster, leaving them with 24 active players for Wednesday's series opener in Dayton, Ohio.

Latham, a 21-year old right-hander, was selected by the Cubs in the 29th round of the 2006 draft out of the College of Southern Idaho. Latham ranked second in both appearances (31) and innings pitched (60 2/3) for the Chiefs before the promotion. Mostly used as a set-up man, Latham posted a 4-2 record along with a 1.93 ERA and also notched three saves in five chances. In 60 2/3 innings pitched, he struck out 59 batters and walked just 17 while holding the opposition to a .212 batting average against. He spent the 2007 season in his hometown of Boise, Idaho pitching with the Hawks in the Northwest League. He went 2-0 with a 3.74 ERA in 20 appearances and also recorded one save. He struck out 47 batters and walked 26 in 45 2/3 innings out of the bullpen.

The Chiefs begin a six-game road trip tonight in Dayton, Ohio when they take on the Dragons at 7:00 PM EST. The game can be heard live tonight beginning with the pre-game show at 5:45 PM local time on www.peoriachiefs.com or on WOAM 1350 AM. Peoria enters play tonight with a 3 ½ game lead over the second place Beloit Snappers in the Western Division and are 21-5 over their last 26 games played. After three games in Ohio against the Dragons, the Chiefs continue the road trip in Indiana against the Fort Wayne Wizards. The Chiefs then head to Chicago to take on the Kane County Cougars at Wrigley Field on Tuesday, July 29.
