Kane County Cougars News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Kane County Cougars began a nine-game road trip Wednesday night with a 4-2 loss against the Fort Wayne Wizards. Larry Cobb drove in two, and Jemile Weeks had a pair of hits, but the Cougars' offense as a whole went silent late in the game. The club has now lost 12 of its last 16 contests.
Cobb cracked an RBI single off Wynn Pelzer in the top of the first to score Weeks, but starter Lance Sewell yielded a homer in the bottom half to make it 1-1. After the Wizards snagged a 2-1 lead in the second with an unearned run, Cobb grounded out in the fourth to bring home Todd Johnson and retie it, 2-2.
Sewell (2-4) allowed one more run in the fifth, and it became the difference. The southpaw surrendered three runs -- two earned -- on three hits over four-plus innings in the loss. Brent Lysander ceded the other run during Fort Wayne's game-changing fifth. Down 4-2 entering the sixth, the Cougars received a leadoff single and a stolen base from Weeks but never got another man on base the rest of the way. Matt Teague (7-6) picked up the win, and Jackson Quezada notched his league-leading 19th save for Fort Wayne.
The Cougars (11-20) and Wizards (15-17) continue their three-game series Thursday night at 6 CT when Jamie Richmond (6-7, 4.51) faces Corey Kluber (0-0, 2.53).
