Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING - Nick Peoples's two-run single in the 11th inning lifted the Quad Cities River Bandits past the Lansing Lugnuts 6-4 Wednesday night before 4,803 fans at Oldsmobile Park in the opener of a three-game series. It is the second straight loss in extra innings for Lansing.

The River Bandits' Brett Wallace started the decisive frame with a single into right field and was quickly moved to second base when Carlos Pupo laid down a sacrifice bunt. After Aaron Luna grounded out, Tommy Pham laced a single into right field, putting runners at the corners. Pham then stole second and both runners would come home on Peoples's single to center field.

The Bandits were able to get the win by erasing an early 3-0 deficit, as Lansing jumped out on top in the first inning. Jonathan Jaspe dropped an RBI double into left field, and then scored on Manny Rodriguez's two-run homer to right. It was his team leading eighth blast of the season.

The Quad Cities were able a to tie the game in the fifth. Oliver Marmol laced a two-run double into left field and later scored when D'marcus Ingram reached on an error by second baseman John Tolisano, knotting the game at 3-3.

They would then take the lead in the next inning on Pham's RBI double into center field, making it a 4-3 game, as the River Bandits scored all of their runs with two outs.

Lansing was able to tie the game back at 4-4 in the seventh, as Moises Sierra blasted a solo homer to right field. It was his eighth of the year as well and it also ended a string of 12 straight men retired by Quad Cities starting pitcher Chuckie Fick.

Pete Parise (3-1) got the win for the Quad Cities after tossing the final two innings of the game. He allowed just one hit, a leadoff double to Yohermyn Chavez in the 10th. However he was caught stealing and the Lugnuts could not push a run across.

Edgar Estanga (9-3) suffered the loss for the Lugnuts despite throwing four innings of relief. He allowed two runs, both in the 11th inning, on five hits. He also struck out six batters.

Lansing (58-44, 19-13) and the Quad Cities (50-46, 17-15) will continue the series Thursday night on a Labatt Blue Light Thirsty Thursday, where beer and soda are on-sale for just $2.

Brian Letko (1-2, 4.63) will take the bump for Lansing, while Josh Wilson (1-4, 3.84) will hurl for the River Bandits. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
