BRIDGEPORT, CT - Rob Collins set the all-time scoring record for the American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, with his 137th and 138th points in a 4-1 home win over the Providence Bruins Saturday night. The record was originally set by Trent Hunter who skated for the Sound Tigers during the team's first two years of play (2001-03).

"It is a great honor to hold with this first-class organization," Collins said. "It is a nice feat but the only way it is going to mean anything is if we keep playing well and continue it into the playoffs."

The record-breaking 137th point came as the second assist on Bruno Gervais' 16th goal of the year at 15:27 of the first period with Allan Rourke picking up the other helper. Collins settled the puck at the left circle and fed it to Rourke at the point who sent it cross ice to Gervais who then fired a wrister past Providence Bruins' netminder Jordan Sigalet to open the scoring.

"He is having a great year, and producing points makes it that much better for him and the team," Sound Tigers head coach Dave Baseggio said.

Collins wasn't done for the night as he sniped his 138th point at 3:48 of the third period, taking a pass from Jeff Hamilton and rifling a snap shot past Sigalet from a near-impossible angle to make the score 3-1.

"His goal in the third was big to take the air out of their tires," Baseggio said. "It gave us some breathing room."

Collins, 27 first signed with the Islanders as a free agent in July of 2003. The 5'10'' 186-pounder from Peterborough, Ontario has now totaled 45 goals, 93 assists and 138 points in 199 games in two-plus seasons (2003-06) with the Sound Tigers. The 93 helpers are also an all-time franchise record. Collins also made his NHL debut with the Islanders earlier this season notching his first points on a goal and an assist in three games. He spent the 2002-03 season and part of the previous campaign with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins after four solid years (1998-2002) at Ferris State University where he was in the running for the 2002 Hobey Baker Award, which is given to the nation's top collegiate player.

The Sound Tigers will return to action when they host the Lowell Lock Monsters this coming Friday, February 10th at 7:35 p.m. All Sound Tigers games are web-cast live at www.soundtigers.com.
