Omaha, NE - The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights got 37 saves from Brent Krahn and three powerplay goals to beat the Chicago Wolves 4-0 on Saturday night at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. The win snapped a five-game winless streak at home.

Mark Giordano got the only goal the Knights would need at 11:22 of the first period. Carsen Germyn won a face-off back to Giordano who skated across the blue line and wired a shot past goalie Michael Garnett for his eleventh goal of the year.

The Knights stretched their lead to 2-0 early in the second period. While on the powerplay, Justin Taylor carried the puck to the Wolves' blue line and fired a shot on goal. Garnett couldn't control the rebound and Cam Severson pounced on it, slamming it home for his eleventh goal of the year.

Not long after the goal, Brett Palin and Warren Peters were whistled for penalties less than a minute apart. Peters got seven minutes for hooking and boarding. The Knights killed off all three penalties including 1:23 of a five-on-three.

They then threw a dagger into the Wolves' comeback hopes when they went back on the powerplay. Craig MacDonald and Dave Moss worked the puck down the left wing and Moss then fired a bullet pass to Eric Nystrom who rifled a shot past Garnett to make it 3-0.

Just 41 seconds later, the Knights were put in a hole again when Zenith Komarniski got a five-minute major for high sticking. Again the Knights, and Krahn in particular, were particularly sharp, blunting everything the Wolves could throw at them. Omaha had a 3-0 lead after two.

The final goal came on a powerplay midway through the third period. Steve Bancroft let go a slap shot from the left point that beat a screened Garnett at 10:05. Bancroft finished with a goal and an assist on the same night he was honored by the Knights for playing in his 1,000th North American professional game.

The 4-0 win was the Knights fifth shutout of the year and the third for Krahn. With a loss by Iowa in Manitoba, the Knights now move to within two points of the Stars in the chase for fourth place in the West Division. It also helped them pull five points ahead of the Wolves.

The Knights are now 19-23-2-7. They are on the road next week for games against the Manitoba Moose on Friday and Saturday, February 10th and 11th. The Knights' next home game is Thursday, February 16th against San Antonio at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets for all home games are on sale at the Civic Auditorium box office, Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., on Sunday from noon through game time and at all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets may be purchased by calling 422-1212 or at Ticketmaster.com.
