Road Warriors Announce Opening Night Roster

Greenville, SC - The Greenville Road Warriors, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, today announced the team's opening night roster for its fifth season in the Upstate. The initial active roster is comprised of 10 forwards, seven defenseman and two goaltenders. In addition, two forwards will begin the season on the reserve list.

Out of the 21 players on the overall roster, nine have previously worn a Road Warriors sweater. The roster also includes three players on NHL contracts with the New York Rangers (goaltender Mackenzie Skapski, forward Michael St. Croix and forward Josh Nicholls) as well as two players on AHL contracts with the Hartford Wolf Pack (goaltender Jeff Malcolm and forward Vinny Saponari).

One of the 12 newcomers, Skapski, 20, is also the youngest player on the team. He was drafted in the sixth round (#170 overall) by New York in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Along with Skapski, forward Brandon Hynes and defensemen Alex Lepkowski and Spencer Humphries make up the four rookies. Defenseman Nick Schneider is the only veteran on the roster, with more than the required 260 professional games for "veteran" status. Rookies are defined by 25 games played or less at the ECHL level or higher.

Furthermore, the average age of the team is 24-years old, while the initial roster will feature 645 games of AHL experience.

Greenville opens the 2014-15 season this Saturday, Oct. 18 with a 7:00 p.m. puck drop against the Orlando Solar Bears in Orlando, Florida.
