Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces are scheduled to launch the 2014-15 regular season with Opening Night on Friday, Oct. 17, starting a three-game series at Sullivan Arena against the Ontario Reign which will celebrate the Aces third Kelly Cup championship.
Games on Friday and Saturday begin at 7:15 p.m. while Sunday's game, to conclude the series, begins at 3:05 p.m. and will end the day with the first of six Fred Meyer "Skate With the Aces" events for the regular season. Individual tickets for all three games are available at the Aces offices (corner of 15th and Gambell), local Fred Meyer locations via Ticketmaster and online at ticketmaster.com.
With the Kelly Cup scheduled to be present Friday on the ice, the Aces will unveil their third Kelly Cup championship banner and four additional banners, celebrating the team's regular season and postseason accomplishments.
On Saturday, the Aces will hold a special ceremony on the ice to distribute Kelly Cup championship rings. For the first two games, the Aces will wear their "glacier blue" third jersey accompanied by an assortment of patches, recognizing the Aces five Brabham Cup titles for top regular season record, three Kelly Cup championships, and an additional commemorative Aces "champions" patch.
The glacier blue jerseys, available to the public for purchase for the first time since 2007, will be available for bidding by fans in attendance in a live auction scheduled for immediately following Saturday's game.
Aces home games will be available statewide in Alaska on television presented by GCI Cable through GCI Channel 1, starting Friday. Returning for its fourth year of Aces television play-by-play, GCI Channel 1 airs Aces hockey to communities such as Fairbanks, Juneau, Ketchikan, Cordova and more (subject to blackout in the Anchorage area).
Mike Benton returns for his second season in the booth as Aces television and radio play-by-play voice and will be joined in the booth by several notables for color commentary throughout the season. Benton, 33, has called over 700 games, served behind the mic for three ECHL All-Star Game radio broadcasts, and is heard as a contributor on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio.
All Aces broadcasts will begin with the 15-minute "Peanut Farm Pregame Show," providing a breakdown of the evening's matchup, insightful analysis and a one-on-one interview with Aces head coach Rob Murray. Immediately following the game, the postgame show will air live from Sullivan Arena, and provide in-depth game analysis, highlights and an extended conversation with Coach Rob Murray, courtesy of Northern Air Cargo.
Starting several hours after each game, GCI Channel 1's Aces telecasts will be available on GCI Video On Demand (subject to availability in select cities).
