Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- Thursday signified the end of training camp round the ECHL and the Kalamazoo Wings wasted no time beginning their preparation for the regular season as the team announced their opening night roster and captains for the 2014-15 campaign.
Kalamazoo's opening night roster will feature 20 active players and two players (Ben Wilson and Justin Taylor) starting the season on the 21-Day injured reserve.
The K-Wings will carry 12 forwards (Jean Bourbeau, Josh Brittain, Ludwig Blomstrand, Matt Caria, Dane Fox, Ray Kaunisto, Eric Kattelus, Alex Mallet, Colin Murray, Lane Scheidl, Justin Taylor and Curtis Valk), eight defensemen (Sam Ftorek, Sacha Guimond, James Isaacs, Isaac Macleod, Zach McCullough, Derek Pallis, Joe Sova and Ben Wilson and two goaltenders (Joel Martin and Scott Munroe).
Also, this afternoon the K-Wings announced their team captains for the 2014-15 season. Wearing the letters on this year will be Bourbeau, Ftorek and Kattelus.
"To be successful as a team you have to have players that care more about the guys next to them than themselves and these three players exemplify that trait." said Nick Bootland, director of hockey operations/head coach. "As a group we understand where we want to be at the end of the season and our captains are poised to lead us there."
A seven-year pro, Bourbeau will wear the "C" for the K-Wings. In his first season with the K-Wings, Bourbeau was captain for the Elmira Jackals for the past three seasons.
Assistant captains for the 2014-15 season will be Ftorek and Kattelus. Ftorek, who is a 17-year veteran, is entering his sixth season with the K-Wings and has worn a captain's letter in each of his seasons in Kalamazoo. Kattelus, who is entering his fourth season as a professional, has spent a part of each of those seasons with the K-Wings and was an assistant captain last season.
Kalamazoo will begin the season on a three-game road swing this Friday, October 17th with a 7:05 p.m. encounter against the Elmira Jackals at the First Arena.
The K-Wings home opener will occur on Friday, October 24th versus Fort Wayne Komets at Wings Stadium during their 11th Annual Orange Ice Game. Fans are encouraged to dress in costumes and participate in Halloween festivities.
