Rivermen Trade Copley to Columbus

On Wednesday Peoria Rivermen president John Butler announced a three player trade between the Rivermen and the ECHL's Columbus Cottonmouths. Peoria sent forward Randy Copley to Columbus for center Mike Nelson and forward Alex Zinevych.

In 34 games with Peoria, the 6'3" 230 lbs Copley had 15 goals and 13 assists for 28 points. Copley had been a member of the hottest line in the ECHL for ten games when he combined with Greg Day and Randy Rowe for 47 points and a plus-50 rating during the month of January.

The 5'10" 185lb Nelson started the season with Wheeling, playing 36 games with three goals and three assists. He was recently traded to Columbus, where he has posted two goals/ two assists in 13 games. As for Zinevych, he has played in 16 games this season for Columbus and tallied no goals and two assists. The 5'10" 190 lb forward played with the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League in 2000-2001 and piled up 10 goals and 17 assists in 61 games.

Rivermen Head Coach Jason Christie says his new additions will add a spark to his team. "Nelson is a very hardworking, high energy type of player and Zinevych has AHL experience and great hands," commented Christie. Both players are expected to be in Peoria for this weekend's games.
