RiverKings Trade For Texas' Godoy
February 8, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League today announced the acquisition of Texas forward Elias Godoy (el-EYE-us guh-DOY) in a trade with the Brahmas. In exchange, the Brahmas receive forward Matt Pierce from the RiverKings.
Godoy, a 28-year old native of West Vancouver, British Columbia, is among the top ten in scoring for the Brahmas with 19 points on six goals and 13 assists through 23 games. He has scored two goals on the power play and has one game-winner.
Godoy this season has fashioned a six-game point streak between December 19 and January 22, where he scored five goals and had eleven points. The point streak came around a period of time when he was on the injured reserve between late December and mid-January.
Returning from the IR, Godoy broke out fast and furious with a six-point performance (three goals, three assists) in two games during a week that won Elias the CHL Player of the Week award on January 18.
Last year, Godoy played professional hockey in Norway with the Frisk Tigers. With the Tigers, Elias scored 16 goals, had 50 points, and collected 155 penalty minutes.
Elias is in his second season playing in the Central Hockey League, having played in the 2007-08 season with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, where he scored 20 goals for 50 points in 56 games.
Godoy's totals that season included four power play goals and two game-winners. He was sixth on the Mudbugs' roster in points and his season included a six-game point streak between December 4, 2007 and December 18, 2007, where he netted three goals and had eleven points.
Elias has also played professionally with Muskegon of the United Hockey League and Victoria of the ECHL.
Prior to the start of his professional career, Godoy played at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, where he played four seasons and also played two seasons of Canadian junior hockey with Burnaby in the British Columbia Hockey League.
Pierce leaves the RiverKings after playing in 39 games this season, scoring seven goals and adding 14 assists for 21 points. In 101 games over two seasons with the RiverKings, Matt scored 22 goals and added 35 assists for 57 points.
The RiverKings face Bossier-Shreveport in an important CHL Northern Conference clash tomorrow night at 7:05 PM in the DeSoto Civic Center. For RiverKings ticket information, call 662-342-1755 or go online to www.riverkings.com today!
