Mudbugs Acquire All-Star Jorgensen, Rights To Deleurme From Wichita
February 8, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League have acquired All-Star defenseman Jim Jorgensen and the rights to forward Jason Deleurme from the Wichita Thunder in exchange for forward Neil Clark, the team announced today. The deal was completed just hours before today's CHL trading deadline of 3:00 pm Central Time.
Jorgensen will join the Mudbugs in Mississippi and is expected to be in the lineup tomorrow against the RiverKings. Deleurme is currently playing in Europe after suiting up for both Colorado and Wichita during the course of this season.
"Jorgensen is an All-Star caliber player, and we've been in the hunch for a defenseman," said Head Coach Scott Muscutt, "I really hate to lose someone like Neil Clark, who is a great team guy and a great player, but I am excited to get the help we needed on the blue line."
Jorgensen, 24, is in his second pro season out of Ferris State University. The 5-11, 198-pound blueliner, was Wichita's lone representative in this year's CHL All Star Game after a solid showing in the first half of the season. Jorgensen appeared in 42 games for the Thunder this year, registering five goals and 11 assists, for 16 points to go with 24 penalty minutes and two game winning goals.
A native of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Jorgensen played 65 games last season in the ECHL, mostly with the Phoenix RoadRunners. He was also a teammate of the Mudbugs Shawn Limpright and John DeCaro for a time with the Las Vegas Wranglers. Before turning pro, Jorgensen appeared in 114 college games over four seasons at Ferris State.
Deleurme, 33, is a 12th year pro who spent time with both the Colorado Eagles and the Thunder this year before departing to play in Europe. In 22 CHL games this season, Deleurme totaled 14 points and 36 penalty minutes. The 5-8, 185-pound forward has spent much of his career playing overseas, where he has skated in both the German and Swedish Elite Leagues.
"We haven't had an opportunity to talk things over with Deleurme yet because of the time difference in Europe, but he's a very talented player and we look forward to exploring our options with him," Muscutt said.
Clark saw action in 26 games for the Mudbugs this season, recording three goals, three assists, and 67 penalty minutes. The 6-2, 210-pound winger was in his second year with Bossier-Shreveport after scoring 21 goals and totaling 36 points to go with 160 penalty minutes last season.
The Mudbugs and RiverKings will meet for the eighth time this season tomorrow night at the DeSoto Civic Center. Opening face-off is set for 7:05 pm with pre-game coverage beginning at 6:45 on AM 1130 KWKH. The game will also be shown live on CHL TV.
