Brahmas Make Splash In Trades, Acquire Pierce From 'Kings
February 8, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (February 8)- The trade deadline came to a halt Monday afternoon, but not before the Brahmas made a move acquiring forward Matt Pierce from the Mississippi Riverkings in exchange for forward Elias Godoy.
Pierce, an Arnpior, ONT native, had 21 points (7 G, 14 A) in 39 games with the RiverKings this season, including two game winning goals. Standing at 6'0 and 205 pounds, the third year forward will bring size and grit to the Brahmas lineup in their final stretch to postseason play.
Last season Pierce recorded 36 points (15 G, 21 A) for Mississippi and finished with a +14 in 62 games. Prior to playing in the Central Hockey League (CHL) he played a pivotal role with the Knoxville Ice Bears of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) in winning a championship. Pierce tallied 22 goals with the Ice Bears, second most on the team roster and collected a pair of goals and an assist in the 2007-08 playoffs.
Texas' Head Coach, Dan Wildfong, believes the acquisition of Pierce will help his team in the last two months of the regular season.
"We picked up a big physical presence who also has the ability to score. Matt's style of play is what we need at this point in the season," said Wildfong. Before going pro, the 24-year-old winger played four games at the Royal Military College (CIS), registering a goal and 21 penalty minutes.
The Brahmas next game is this Friday at the NYTEX Sports Centre as they host the Laredo Bucks at 7:05 PM on $1 Coke Night. On Saturday Texas hosts their Metroplex rivals, the Allen Americans for a 7:05 PM faceoff. For tickets please contact the Brahmas Box Office at (817) 336-4423 or www.brahmas.com.
