Kansas City Mavericks News Release

SOUTHAVEN, Mississippi - The Missouri Mavericks gave up a three-goal first period lead and lost 5-4 Saturday night to the Mississippi RiverKings at DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, Mississippi. Mavericks' defenseman Ray DiLauro had a pair of goals, but the RiverKings scored three power play goals including two in the third period to cap the comeback victory. The teams will face off again in their next game on Friday, October 29 at Independence Events Center. Tickets are available including a four-pack of four Rinkside tickets, four hot dogs and four Pepsi soft drinks for just $80. Call (816) 252-7825 for tickets.

The Mavericks dominated the RiverKings in the first period by taking a 3-0 lead through the first 17 minutes. Ray DiLauro netted his second goal of the season to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead at the 8:08 mark of the period. Ryan Jardine stole a crossing pass to set up the DiLauro's goal as DiLauro took a feed from Nick Sirota and buried a slap shot from the left circle.

Sirota tallied his second goal of the season when he and Mike Berry rushed in the RiverKings' zone on a two-on-one break. Berry came in along the left wing and made a nice pass to Sirota who was streaking down the right side. Sirota took the pass and wristed it past Mississippi goaltender Larry Sterling.

Finally, Missouri took a 3-0 lead on their second power play goal of the season and Toby Lafrance's first goal at the 16:58 mark. Lafrance took a drop pass from Jardine and wristed a shot through traffic from the top of the left circle that found the back of the net.

The RiverKings battled back in the second period and cut the lead to 3-2 after 40 minutes of play. Former Maverick Jeff Christian scored his first goal of the season on a three-on-two when he took a pass from Chris Richards snapped his shot past the stick of Mavericks' goaltender Zane Kalemba. At the 10:55 mark of the second, Richards scored on a rebound with the RiverKings on the power play to cut the Mavericks' lead to 3-2. It marked the first power play goal against the Mavericks this season.

It was all Mississippi in the final 10 minutes of the game. First, Nathan Lutz scored the second power play goal of the game for Mississippi at the 13:21 mark to tie the game 3-3. DiLauro quickly answered and regained the lead for the Mavericks when he skated the length of the ice and wristed a shot past Sterling from the left circle.

Missouri's lead only lasted 1:46 as Darrell Stoddard scored the RiverKings third power play goal of the game at the 16:10 mark and tied the game 4-4. Only 20 seconds later, R.G. Flath scored his first goal of the season when he buried a loose puck in a scrum in front of the net. The goal proved to be the game winner.

Mavericks' goaltender Kalemba was pulled in the final moments, but another penalty on the visiting team squashed the Mavericks chances at tying the game. In total, the Mavericks were whistled for the final five penalties of the game and Mississippi capitalized on two of those chances to steal the victory from the Mavericks.

The game marked Missouri's first loss in regulation in the 2010-11 season. They are now 2-1-1 and will head home to take on the same Mississippi team next Friday, October 29 at Independence Events Center.

Tickets for all remaining regular season home games are on sale now starting at just $14 per game. Mini-plans, season tickets and group tickets are also available by calling (816) 252-7825 or visit www.MissouriMavericks.com for more information.
