Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - Rookie goaltender Brian Foster made 29 saves in his professional debut to help the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs earn a 4-2 victory over the Texas Brahmas Saturday night at the NyTex Sports Centre. The win snapped a two-game losing streak at the end of a three-in-three weekend for the Mudbugs, who are now 4-2-0 this season.
Travis Clayton and Shawn Limpright each had a goal and an assist, with Brett Smith and David Rutherford tallying the other two Bossier-Shreveport goals. The âBugs held Texas off the scoreboard in seven powerplay chances while going 1 for 6 on their own man-advantage.
The Mudbugs bookended the opening period with goals in the first minute and last minute to take a 2-0 lead into the locker room. Brett Smith scored on the Mudbugs' first offensive rush of the game, burying a pass from Joe Blaznek just 27 seconds in to make it 1-0 âBugs. Smith also fought for the first time this season in the first period, taking on Dan Reidel after he was knocked hard into the boards at 11:56. A powerplay goal with 56 seconds left in the period extended the lead when Travis Clayton finished a nice centering feed from Shawn Limpright to make it 2-0.
Texas drew back within one in the second period as Jason Deitsch stole a puck outside the Mudbug line and beat Brian Foster just inside the post to the glove side. Bossier-Shreveport answered with David Rutherford's blast from the high slot only nine seconds later though to regain the two-goal edge at 3-1 after 40 minutes of play.
The Brahmas outshot the Mudbugs 13-4 in the third and again cut the lead to one on Jesse Dudas' goal to cap an end-to-end rush at 15:15. Limpright's goal then came in the closing seconds with the Texas net empty as the âBugs opened the 11-game season series vs. Texas with a win.
Brian Foster is now 1-0 in his pro career after returning from Rochester of the AHL to start for the Mudbugs in goal, while Wayne Savage drops to 1-1-1 after making 14 saves. Texas outshot Bossier-Shreveport 31-18 in the contest.
The Mudbugs will be back in action Tuesday night with their third game of the season against the Allen Americans. Opening faceoff is set for 7:30 at the Allen Events Center. Check the broadcast schedule page on our website (www.mudbugshockey.com/schedule/onair) for radio broadcast information.
