Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - It's always eventful when the Brahmas and Mudbugs compete, and with four rounds of fisticuffs, the excitement didn't come short of the usual, despite the 4-2 loss Saturday by Texas at the NYTEX Sports Centre.

It took just :27 seconds and one shift for the Mudbugs to begin the I-20 rivalry when Brett Smith slapped a shot past Wayne Savage for a 1-0 Bossier lead and his sixth of the season. Just as Texas seemed to catch momentum and head into the intermission, Kevin Kraus took an elbowing penalty giving Travis Clayton and the ‘bugs top ranked powerplay time with the man advantage ultimately costing them a two goal deficit at the 19:04 mark.

Texas opened the middle frame on the job following a high sticking call at the end of the first, only to have it offset with a newly acquired Dan Riedel roughing call 18 seconds in. An unassisted goal from Jason Deitsch put Texas on the boards midway in the game for the Brahmas first tally and Deitsch's first goal of the year. Seconds after giving the Brahmas life, David Rutherford gave the ‘bugs a two point pad back with his fourth goal of the year and Bossier 3-1 lead. Play began to get chippy and at the 11:10 mark a battle of the number 8's ensued in front of the Bossier net (Tyler Allen: TEX, Jeff Martens: BOS).

A pair of fights developed in the third period and a potential Texas comeback when Jesse Dudas scored an unassisted goal with five minutes remaining in the game, but a victory was not in the works for the Brahmas as they lost 4-2 following a Shawn Limpright empty net goal. The Brahmas outshot the Mudbugs 31-18 in their first home loss of the season.

The Brahmas hit the road next weekend for a two game series against the Arizona Sundogs on Friday and Saturday; both games have a 9:05 PM CST start. Texas returns to the NYTEX Sports Centre on Saturday, November 6 for a 7:30 pm contest. For ticket information please contact the Brahmas Box Office at (817) 336-4423 or visit www.brahmas.com.
