Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - Rally towels and excitement filled the NYTEX Sports Centre on the Brahmas home opener Friday night and it seemed to be just enough as they defeated the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 3-2 for their first victory of the season.
Sean Muncy put the Bees on the board first when he converted on the powerplay at the 2:05 marker for his second of the early season. The tempo picked up with just nine seconds remaining in the first when Brahmas enforcer Roger Maxwell took exception to Rob Cowan, resulting in matching five minute majors for the duo. As the buzzer concluded the opening frame, Rio's Jake Obermeyer was called for a slashing penalty, giving the Brahmas the opportunity to start the second with the man advantage.
With the powerplay on tap, the Brahmas went to work and ultimately tied the game when a blast from the stick of Jesse Dudas stunned netminder Juliano Pagliero 1:27 in the period. Steven Later and Matt Pierce recorded the helpers.
In the third the Killer Bees were unable to stay out of the box early leading to a Texas two-man advantage where Greg Hogeboom netted his third of the season from the doorstep of Pagliero's crease for Texas' first lead of the night. Aaron Lee put a damper on celebrations when he beat Wayne Savage with the 14th shot of the night. But with rally towels in hand, the Brahmas crowd and a shot from Tyler Allen gave Texas a 3-2 victory with just under five minutes remaining in the game.
Texas outshot Rio Grande Valley 45-18 and went 2 for 8 on the powerplay. Tomorrow night Texas hosts their I-20 rival, Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Magnet Schedule Night for a 7:30 pm faceoff. The first 1,000 fans in attendance for the contest will receive 2010-11 magnet schedules courtesy of ZuRoma Bar and Grill.
