Quad City Mallards News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN - Damian Surma and Mario Larocque scored two goals apiece as the host Evansville IceMen defeated the Quad City Mallards 6-3 Saturday night.

The IceMen emerged from a wild second period with a 5-2 lead. Evansville doubled the 1-0 lead it held after one period when Surma scored from the slot just 65 seconds into the second. The gap stretched to 3-0 when Lee Zalasky scored from the doorstep at 5:07 of the second.

The Mallards would then grab back some of the momentum with back-to-back goals of their own. Zach Pearson swept home the first Quad City goal and what was also the first of his two on the night while tumbling in the slot at 8:32 of the middle frame. At 16:26 the Flock cut the deficit to 3-2 on Joel Gasper's tip-in.

The Mallards' comeback bid was soon cut short however, as the IceMen quickly responded with two goals in just 13 seconds. Larocque's blue line blast widened the Evansville advantage to 4-2 at 17:01. When Surma buried his second from the slot at 17:14 the IceMen had a three goal lead again.

When the Mallards pulled goaltender Michel Robinson for an extra attacker during a Quad City power play late in the third period, it was Larocque who took advantage by scoring a shorthanded empty net goal to make it 6-2 at the 15:47 mark. The Mallards were again on the power play when Pearson's shot broke in off Evansville netminder Matt Lundin at 16:49 of the third to provide the final margin
