Albany River Rats News Release
Albany N.Y. â The Albany River Rats announced today that right wing Jiri Bicek will be honored prior to Friday's 7:00pm game against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at Pepsi Arena. The first 500 fans will receive a FREE Jiri Bicek trading card and one lucky River Rats fan will leave the arena with season-tickets-for-life. Bicek will receive a specially commissioned portrait composed by local artist and River Rats season ticket holder Christian N. St. Pierre during the pre-game ceremony.
Bicek, 25, established a new franchise record by skating in his 407th game with the River Rats against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on February 7, 2004. He ranks sixth on the club with 21 (9-12-21) points in 43 games during the 2003-04 season, while also going scoreless with a minus one rating in seven games for the New Jersey Devils.
The native of Kosice, Slovakia was a member of the Devils' 2003 Stanley Cup Championship squad after appearing in five post-season contests, including four games during the Stanley Cup Finals against the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. He set National Hockey League highs of five goals and six assists for 11 points in 44 regular season games with New Jersey last year.
He tops the franchise with 411 games played (through Feb. 17, 2004) and holds sole possession of second place with 233 (72-161-233) points. Bicek moved into a second place tie with defenseman Bryan Helmer by picking up his 161st assist on Sunday in Springfield. The two-time AHL All-Star (2000 & 2002) is also tied with center Steve Sullivan for seventh in River Rats history with 72 goals since joining the club for the 1997-98 campaign.
The Albany River Rats, in their 11th season as a member of the American Hockey League, are owned and operated by Capital District Sports Inc., and serve as the primary affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils.
