
Penguins sign forward Ryan Tobler and defenseman Jesse Cook to 25-game PTOs

WILKES-BARRE, PA. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have signed forward Ryan Tobler and defenseman Jesse Cook to 25-game professional try-out contracts. The announcement was made today by Penguins' team president Jeff Barrett.
Tobler, 27, has recorded 79 points (30+49) and penalty minutes in 51 games this season with the Colorado Eagles (CHL). He leads the league in plus/minus rating (+39) and is second in the league in scoring.
The 6'3", 227-pound native of Calgary, Alberta split last season between Chicago and Springfield of the American Hockey League. In 58 games with the Wolves, he recorded 31 points (13+18) and 143 penalty minutes and posted two assists and 44 penalty minutes in 11 games with the Falcons.
Tobler was signed by the Tampa Bay Lightning on August 21, 2001. He appeared in four games with the Lightning during the 2001-02 season, going scoreless with five penalty minutes.
Cook, 24, has recorded 16 points (4+12) and 118 penalty minutes in 51 games this season with the Eagles.
Last season, the 6'5", 215-pound native of Englewood, Colorado collected four points (1+3) and 48 penalty minutes in 54 games with the Lexington Men O'War of the East Coast Hockey League.
Cook played four seasons at the University of Denver (WCHA) from 1998-2002. In 152 career games with the Pioneers, he recorded 59 points (6+53) and 114 penalty minutes. He drafted by the Calgary Flames in the fifth round (153RD overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
Both players practiced today and are expected to be in the lineup tonight when the Penguins (20-21-6-5, 51 points; 6TH -Place, East Division) visit the Philadelphia Phantoms (30-17-5-1, 66 points; 2ND -Place, East Division) at 7 p.m. at the Wachovia Spectrum. The game is the first of seven consecutive road games for the Penguins.
