Senators assign Hamel, Payer and Ray to Binghamton

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators today assigned forwards Denis Hamel, Serge Payer and Rob Ray to the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Hamel and Payer had their emergency recalls cancelled while Ray will play five games with Binghamton on a conditioning stint. He will return to Ottawa following Binghamton's game next Wednesday (Feb. 25) against Wilkes-Barre.

Hamel, 26, who was recalled on an emergency basis on Feb. 15 to replace Chris Kelly, has been recalled to Ottawa four times this season and has played in five games. He has recorded no points or penalty minutes and a -3 +/- rating while averaging 6:16 of ice-time. He also leads the Binghamton Senators in scoring with 47 points (21-26), 87 penalty minutes and a +7 rating in 53 games with Binghamton this season.

Payer, 24, was recalled on an emergency basis on Feb. 17 but did not appear in any games with Ottawa. He currently has 26 points (11-15), 56 penalty minutes and a +1 rating in 46 games with Binghamton.

Ray, 35, was signed as a free agent by the Senators on February 13. The 14-year NHL veteran has been working out in Ottawa and has not yet played this season.

The Binghamton Senators currently sit tied for fourth in the AHL's East division with a 25-22-5-2 record. Their next game is tonight (Feb. 18) when they visit Syracuse.
