Coyotes assign Spiller to Falcons

Springfield, MA – The Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League (AHL) today announced that defenseman Matthew Spiller has been assigned to the club by their NHL affiliate, the Phoenix Coyotes.

Spiller, 21, has skated in 39 games with the Coyotes this season while accumulating 46 penalty minutes (PIM). The Daysland, Alberta native has averaged 10:21of ice time per game with the Coyotes. Spiller was Phoenix's second choice (2nd round, 31st overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

Spiller has recorded a goal and an assist as well as 14 PIM in eight games with the Falcons this season. The defenseman was recalled by Phoenix on January 18th after being originally assigned to Springfield on December 30th.

The 6'5", 233-pound defenseman is expected to join the Falcons in time for the team's game against the Hartford Wolf Pack at the Springfield Civic Center tonight. Game time is 7:05 p.m. To order tickets by phone, please contact the Civic Center box office at (413) 787-6600.
