Sacramento River Cats News Release

West Sacramento, Calif. - River Cats starting pitcher Brad Peacock struck out 11 batters in seven innings, but his team dropped game one of its series with the Tucson Padres by a score of 6-0 on Friday night at Raley Field.

Peacock breezed through the first four innings, carrying a perfect game into the fifth. The T-Pads put a three spot on the board in that frame, highlighted by a leadoff solo home run from Matt Clark, and a two-run double from catcher Rocky Gale. They would tack on a fourth run in the sixth when prospect Jedd Gyorko hit a home run onto the clubhouse roof beyond the left field wall, extending the River Cats deficit to 4-0. The final two runs for Tucson were scored on a throwing error from lefty reliever Pedro Figueroa in the top of the ninth inning.

The River Cats collected three hits in the contest, as Michael Taylor, Grant Green and Shane Peterson all went 1-for-3. Taylor notched the only River Cat extra-base hit of the evening with a seventh-inning double.

Peacock finished having allowed four earned runs on four hits and three walks in seven innings with a season-high 11 strikeouts. The loss drops his record to 7-7 on the year. Figueroa gave up two unearned runs in 1.2 innings pitched with three strikeouts. Rich Thompson recorded one out in the ninth without giving up a run.

Gyorko finished 3-for-5 with a run, an RBI, a home run and a double, and Gale went 2-for-4 with a run, two RBIs, a home run and a double.

Game two of the series is set for a Sutter Health Postgame Fireworks Saturday at Raley Field. PCL ERA-leader Graham Godfrey (9-0, 2.86 ERA) will take the mound for Sacramento to face T-Pads lefty Colt Hynes (3-8, 6.64 ERA) as the River Cats Swing for the Cure to raise money for breast cancer awareness and research.
