Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - A four-run first inning propelled the Omaha Storm Chasers to a 10-4 victory over the Round Rock Express in Friday night's Pacific Coast League series opener at The Dell Diamond. The Express (41-58) have lost six straight home games and dropped to 2-6 since the All-Star break. The Storm Chasers (59-41) lead the season series 11-2 and have won 14 of 17 meetings, dating back to last season's American Conference Championship Series.
Omaha scored four runs on three hits, a walk, a wild pitch and a costly Express error in the first inning. That came off Texas Rangers right-hander Neftali Feliz, who lasted only one and two-thirds innings in his first rehab start with the Express. Feliz (0-1) surrendered only one earned run out of four but walked two, uncorked two wild pitches and was called for a balk in the first inning when the ball fell out of his glove as he started his delivery. His lone strikeout was against the last batter he faced.
The Storm Chasers added three runs on five hits in the third off Johan Yan and another off Martin Perez in the fifth. Meanwhile, Omaha starter Nate Adcock retired each of the first 12 batters he faced before walking Brad Nelson and Ryan Spilborghs to open the fifth inning. Both runners later scored on sacrifice flies. Nelson provided the only other runs for the Express, clubbing a two-run homer in the sixth. It was Nelson's fourth homer in eight games since the All-Star break, during which time he is 11-for-27.
That was as close as the Express would get, though. Omaha padded its lead with a Johnny Giavotella RBI single in the seventh and a Anthony Seratelli leadoff homer in the ninth.
Adcock (5-3) picked up the win, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks over seven innings with three strikeouts. Vin Mazzaro closed the game with two shutout innings despite a hit, three walks and a wild pitch.
Yangervis Solarte (2-for-4) had Round Rock's lone multiple-hit game. Greg Miclat and Matt Kata joined Nelson for the other Express hits.
Leadoff batter Irving Falu paced Omaha's 15-hit attack, going 4-for-6 with two doubles, two runs scored and one RBI. Seratelli was 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Giavotella and Tony Abreu had two hits each.
Round Rock and Omaha continue their four-game series Saturday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at The Dell Diamond. Left-hander Chris Dwyer (0-1, 12.60 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Storm Chasers, while left-hander Zach Jackson (3-11, 4.99 ERA) is the projected starter for the Express.
