Tacoma Rainiers News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Tacoma Rainiers fell to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 13-6 at Security Service Field in the series opener between the two clubs on Friday night.
The Rainiers led 2-0 before giving up an insurmountable seven runs to the Sky Sox in the bottom of the fourth inning. First baseman Matt McBride evened the score with a two-run double, and third baseman Brendan Harris put Colorado Springs on top with a two-run triple three batters later.
A solo home run hit by designated hitter Chad Tracy stretched the Sky Sox lead to 6-2. Shortstop Tommy Field rounded out Colorado springs offensive inning after scoring on a wild pitch thrown by Rainiers starter Andrew Carrway.
Tacoma took the lead in the top of the frame after Alex Liddi scored on Sky Sox starter Rob Scahill's wild pitch thrown with two outs. Vinnie Catricala cleared the way for another run with a single to center field that plated outfielder Mike Wilson from third base.
Wilson and fellow outfielder Trayvon Robinson each turned in two hits to pace a Rainiers lineup that combined to collect 11. Wilson doubled and hit a three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning.
Starter Andrew Carraway (3-5) was dealt the loss after surrendering a season-high nine runs - eight earned - on 12 hits over 4.0 innings. The right-hander struck out one without issuing a walk.
Right-hander Stephen Pryor, currently with the Rainiers on a Major League rehab assignment, allowed just one hit and walked one over a scoreless inning of work in the ninth.
The Rainiers (41-57) play the second game of the club's four-day, five-game series at Colorado Springs tomorrow, July 21. Left-hander Steve Garrison (0-2, 6.50) is scheduled to start for Tacoma against left-hander Nick Schmidt (1-2, 9.00) for the Sky Sox. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m.
