The Colorado Springs Sky Sox (50-48) won their eighth consecutive series opener at home with a 13-run offensive onslaught against the Tacoma Rainiers (41-57), their highest run total against the division rival this season and the tenth time in the 2012 season that the Sox have totaled double-digit runs.

Colorado Springs was held scoreless for the first three innings of the game, but after the Rainiers scored two runs in the fourth inning the Sox offense exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Sky Sox had seven consecutive hits to start off the inning, including four extra-base hits, with Sky Sox first baseman Matt McBride doubling in two runs, third baseman Brendan Harris tripling in two runs and first baseman Chad Tracy smacking his eighth homer of the season which is second most on the team this season. Tracy has multi-RBI in five of the last six games and has collected a RBI in 17 of 23 starts. The Sox scored six runs over the next three innings to seal the win.

Every Sky Sox batter collected a hit in the game, with the 3-through-6 hitters going a combined 12-for-17 with seven runs and seven RBI. With two hits in the game McBride extended his team-high hitting streak to 13 games, which is tied for the second longest hitting streak for any player this season, and he has 13 RBI and 15 runs scored during the streak. Centerfielder Charlie Blackmon notched his eighth multi-hit game in his last ten starts, and leads all of the PCL with 23 hits since July 7. Second baseman Hernan Iribarren led the way for the Sox with four hits in the game, tying a season high.

Sky Sox starter Rob Scahill (8-9, 5.30 ERA) earned his fifth win in his last seven starts by limiting the Rainiers to just two runs over his six innings of work, tying a season high in innings pitched, while striking out five. Scahill leads the team with 110 strikeouts on the season, and is one of only three pitchers in the PCL this season with more than 100 strikeouts.

The win improves the Sky Sox record to 8-4 against Tacoma this season, and the Sox have won four consecutive games against the Rainiers at Security Service Field. In the second game of the series Colorado Springs will send out left-hander Nick Schmidt (1-2, 9.00 ERA), who earned his first Triple-A win in his last start, to face off with fellow left-hander Steve Garrison (0-2, 6.50 ERA) at 6:05 p.m. MT on Jim Thome Bobblehead Giveaway night.
