Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. -- A big inning led to big trouble in the Tacoma Rainiers 14-3 loss to the Sacramento River Cats in the series finale between the two clubs at Cheney Stadium on Thursday night.
The Rainiers held a 2-1 edge before allowing a season-high eight runs to the River Cats in the top of the fourth inning. Kila Ka'aihue scored the tying run on a wild pitch, and Stephen Parker drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI-single.
With the Rainiers eventually trailing 4-2 later in the inning, outfielder Grant Green and the designated hitter Ka'aihue capped off the frame with three-run and two-run home runs.
The Rainiers erased a 1-0 River Cats lead with a two-run inning earlier in the contest. Outfielder Darren Ford scored Carlos Triunfel on a fielder's choice to even things at 1-1, and Luis Jimenez gave Tacoma a brief one-run edge with an RBI-single three batters later.
Tacoma tallied a combined 10 hits in the contest, with Jimenez, Triunfel and catcher Guillermo Quiroz all turning in two hits in the losing effort.
Starter Hector Noesi (0-1) struggled in his second turn in the Rainiers rotation this season en route to suffering the loss. The right-hander surrendered 10 runs - nine earned - on nine hits over 5.0 innings, while walking three and striking out three.
Right-handed reliever Jandy Sena limited the River Cats to four runs - three earned - on five hits and struck out four over 4.0 innings in his first appearance with the Rainiers since transferring from Double-A Jackson earlier in the day.
The Rainiers (41-56) now hit the road and head to Colorado Springs to open a four-day, five-game series at the Sky Sox beginning tomorrow, July 20. Right-hander Andrew Carraway (4-4, 4.08) is slated to start for Tacoma against Colorado Springs' right-hander Rob Scahill (7-9, 5.44).
