Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers were swept in a four-game series as they were topped by the Oklahoma City RedHawks, 9-8, in front of 6,888 fans at Werner Park on Thursday night. Omaha made it interesting as they came within a run of tying Oklahoma City after entering the bottom of the seventh trailing 9-3. Clint Robinson, Adam Moore and Johnny Giavotella all homered in Thursday's loss. The setback was the Chasers' fifth home loss in a row.
OKC (58-40) leapt out to an early 2-0 lead but the home team fired right back as an RBI double by Tony Abreu was followed up with a two-run blast by Robinson to hand the Storm Chasers (58-41) a 3-2 lead.
Undaunted, the RedHawks regained the advantage in the second thanks to a two-run homer and a solo shot to put Omaha in a 5-3 hole. The visitors piled on lone runs in the third, fifth, sixth and seventh to extend their lead over the Chasers to a bleak 9-3.
Down but not out, the Storm Chasers mounted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh as Jason Bourgeois singled and Adam Moore hit a mammoth two-run shot to inch Omaha to within four runs of Oklahoma City.
Trailing 9-5 in the bottom of the ninth, Derrick Robinson dropped a bunt single to start the inning and moved to second on a throwing error by the RedHawks' pitcher, Jonnathan Aristil. A Bourgeois single moved D. Robinson to third and then Moore plated Derrick on a sacrifice fly. Bourgeois moved to second on defensive indifference during Giavotella's at-bat who then promptly connected on a Juan Abreu offering, driving the pitch over the left field wall to bring the home team within one. The next batter, Abreu, walked to put the tying run on base but C. Robinson popped out to the shortstop to end the game.
The Storm Chasers will travel to Round Rock for four games and then move on to New Orleans for four more before returning to Werner Park on August 1 to begin an eight-game homestand.
