River Cats Hold on for Series Opening Victory, 9-7

Albuquerque, NM - The Isotopes took a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning but the River Cats responded with eight unanswered runs to take a lead and held on in the ninth after an Albuquerque rally for a 9-7 victory in the opening game of the series Tuesday night at Isotopes Park.

Albuquerque is now 0-4 in series openers on the year.

In the box, the home team tallied 11 hits, one double and two homers. Four players had two-hit efforts: Tim Lopes, Elehuris Montero, Sean Bouchard and Kyle Holder. Montero led the way with two RBI. Scott Schebler and Brian Serven both homered.

The Topes jumped on the board first with three runs in their first trip to the dish. Lopes led off with a single and got to second on a walk by Ryan Vilade. Montero then grounded an RBI single through the right side. Two batters later, Carlos Pérez brought home the second run with a sac fly. The inning was capped by a Bouchard RBI single.

However, Sacramento took an 8-3 lead in the fourth after scoring one in the second, four in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Schebler ended Albuquerque's scoring drought in the sixth with a one-out solo clout to straight-away center, his fourth on the year.

Albuquerque wouldn't go quietly in the ninth. Serven extended his hitting streak to five with a solo shot in the ninth, his third of the year.

Matt Dennis took the loss after allowing eight runs on 10 hits, one walk and two homers with six strikeouts.

Topes Scope:

- Dennis has now allowed at least five earned runs in his last three starts.

-This is the sixth-straight game the Topes have allowed at least six runs.

-With the solo homer in the second by Ka'ai Tom the Isotopes have allowed a homer in 12-straight contests and 16 of 19 overall games.

-Schebler extended his hitting streak to eight games-the longest by a Tope this year-with a double in the sixth inning.

On Deck: Game two is set for 6:05 pm Wednesday. Zach Neal is expected to start for the Isotopes while Raynel Espinal.
