River Cats fall again at hands of Sidewinders

West Sacramento, Calif. - The Sacramento River Cats fell to the Tucson Sidewinders, 8-1, on Wednesday night at Raley Field, extending their losing streak to 3 games and falling 12.0 games behind Tucson for the first time since August 7th. The Sidewinders pounded in the runs, scoring all eight within the first 5 innings, including home runs by infielder Alberto Callaspo and catcher Juan Brito to drive home a combined 5 runs. For the second straight night, the Cats managed to score just one run, tonight on a single to left field by Scott McClain in the bottom of the 5th inning. Cats' righty Ben Fritz took his 5th loss of the season, as he gave up all 8 Tucson runs (7 earned) in a 4 2/3 inning start. Victor Moreno, Brandon Puffer, Ron Flores and John Birtwell combined to hold off Tucson through 4 1/3 shutout innings of relief.
