Fresno Grizzlies News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Grizzlies and San Francisco Giants announced Wednesday the teams have signed a two-year Player Development Contract (PDC) extension that will keep the Grizzlies and Giants affiliates through the 2008 season.
San Francisco originally became Fresno's parent club in the Grizzlies first year in 1998. The Giants have had a history in the city of Fresno dating back to 1958 when the Fresno Giants of the California League were the Giants Single-A affiliate until 1987.
"We are very excited and pleased to renew our relationship with the Giants for the next two years," said Chris Cummings, Fresno Baseball Club Managing General Partner. "We look forward to working with the Giants next season and are optimistic about the outcome."
The Grizzlies have a record of 578-700 (through August 29) under the Giants in eight-plus seasons and have seen many Grizzlies make it to the majors, contributing to the success of the parent club. Pitchers such as Matt Cain, Noah Lowry and Brad Hennessey came through Fresno and now are anchoring the Giants starting rotation. Other players such as Pedro Feliz, Kevin Frandsen, Eliezer Alfonzo, Todd Linden, Kevin Correia, Jonathan Sanchez and Jack Taschner have all contributed to the Giants this season and will play key roles for the Giants in the future.
